Energy Saving Tips
In a typical home, the fridge could account for as much as 25% of the
electricity bill and if you own an apartment building that adds up to quite a
substantial electrical bill.
Here are a few tips to help you reduce energy consumption:
- brush or vacuum the condenser coils behind/underneath the fridge at least
twice a year or whenever a tenant moves out. Don’t use anything sharp as
you could puncture the coils.
- Set the fridge to the correct temperature—between 38º and 42 º F—a
fridge set just 10º colder than required can increase your electric bill by
25%.
- Test the seal on the door for cracks by closing the door on a piece of
paper and trying to pull it out. If it slides out easily, then the seal
should be replaced.
- Check the door gasket for dried on food and cracks.
- Defrost freezers regularly as 1/4" frost buildup makes the motor work
harder.
- Put insulation between appliances such as fridge and stove or fridge and
dishwasher.
Increased energy consumption equals higher operating costs & reduced
appliance life, that is why it is in your best interest to ensure that your
fridge (s) are running efficiently.
