Education Committee Report

By Donna Wilson, Education Committee

September, 2007

The previous Education Apartment Caretaker certification program in conjunction with Red River Community College. The current Education Committee (Robert Simpson (Chair), Laurie Socha, Marlene Spletzer, Shirley Tillett, Karin Kusyk and Donna Wilson) has carried this forward by establishing the continuing education requirement of 5 credits (hours) per year for graduates to maintain their certification. The Committee is presently developing credit courses which will be offered at the 2008 PPMA Suite Living Trade Show and Conference and possibly other education courses and workshops throughout the year.

At last report there are 39 registrants in the Professional Caretaker Program, many of them employees of our member firms and we anticipate our first graduate this fall, with more to follow next year. The number of participants in the courses first year is very encouraging, both from the support of member firms as well as the general public who are looking to enter our industry at this level. As you know, the PPMA issues the certificate for this program and it is our intention to present graduates with their certificates at a future Association meeting or event.

The Education Committee is also working on lining up speakers and topics for the seminar portion of the Association’s 2008 Suite Living Trade Show and Conference. We want to offer a diverse line-up to interest all levels of property management and the topics under consideration include Workplace Safety, Communication/Customer Service, Professional Development, Residential Tenancies issues, to name but a few. We have taken into consideration the feedback from this year’s Trade Show participants and if you have any recommendations or suggestions on topics or guest speakers, please contact one of the Committee members. We would more than welcome any suggestions
