December Holiday Luncheon: Lady Bug Foundation Presentation

The PPMA was extremely fortunate to have a very special young lady as our guest speaker for the December 15th Holiday Luncheon. Everyone who has ever had the pleasure of meeting eight year old Hannah Taylor, founder of The Lady Bug Foundation describes her as “Inspiring”! And she certainly inspired members and associates to dig deep and support her cause, with donations after her 20-minute video and 10-minute speaking presentation necessitating her father to borrow a briefcase to carry all of the bills and coins, in addition to the $500 PPMA cheque (presented by Ron Penner of PPMA’s Helping Hand Charity) and at least three other corporate cheques from members in attendance.

The Lady Bug Foundation was created by Hannah when she was six years old, after she had a “Life Changing Experience” the year before—Hannah and her mother came across a homeless man eating out of a dumpster in an alley. This really disturbed Hannah and she worried about him for a year, when her mother wisely advised that, “Sometimes if we do something, it will help us not to worry so much.”

From that point forward Hannah has become an advocate for the homeless and through her efforts (directly and indirectly) over $400,000 has been raised to help the homeless. The Ladybug Foundation supports programs across Canada that feed and house the homeless. They also fund programs that educate Canadians about Homelessness. Hannah has met with powerful politicians including former Mayor Glen Murray, Prime Minister Paul Martin and several hundred of this countries most powerful business leaders.

Hannah’s genuine concern for the homeless and her innocence are so disarming that you cannot help but be moved by her passion and simple message— “If we all just share a little of what we have and care about each other always, we can make a difference”.

PPMA members can help in two ways:

  1. Have one of Hannah’s Lady Bug jars in your office to collect spare change for the homeless; or
  2. Make a donation by sending a check to The Ladybug Foundation at 18 Sanders Bay Winnipeg Manitoba R3R-3W4 or by taking your donation  to any Bank of Montreal.

78 members and associates attended a fantastic luncheon of Baron of Beef, which was once again generously sponsored by Shaw Cable and its representatives.

We thank Shaw, all of our members and associates for a wonderful year and look forward to 2005!
