At first glance, one
might think I am only referring to the onset of competition to cable.
The reality is that cable continues to step up the quality delivery of new products backed by outstanding service delivered by the most technologically advanced and reliable fibre optic network.
Whew! What a mouthful. What does this really mean to you, the property owner or manager? For over 30 years, Videon has delivered virtually every video service available and licensed for distribution. We have upgraded our network with fibre optics to be even more robust, and deliver new and better products to your tenants. Our service commitment has not changed we stand behind our product with 24 hours per day, 7 days a week monitoring service and of course we offer no-charge service calls. Just think of all the extra money you have saved by having us deal directly with your tenants - even in situations where a bulk cable agreement was in place, or where you may have installed the initial system. Our operating license, issued by the CRTC, holds us responsible for signal quality and customer satisfaction. Now with the authorization by Industry Canada for the use of channels 41 and 42, we are responsible for all network integrity related to signal leakage and impact on other over-air broadband spectrum services such as fire, police, ambulance and air traffic control.
But how does this affect you and why should you care? There are several answers, including long term technical commitment and a personal approach by us to understand how important cable TV is for you and your tenants. At Videon, we have also taken great strides to establish a relationship with Residential Tenancies to help us understand the needs and concerns of your business and how our actions could impact on you.
New Services
We have added more non-video services, such as high speed Internet
access. In fact, we are slowly rolling this out to apartments to
ensure a technically reliable product. Signal and noise interference
can wreak havoc with an Internet connection and we have to take steps to
ensure the signal is reliable and will not be compromised through cut cables,
loose connectors or signal leakage that can occur in apartments as well
as homes.
Recent regulatory changes have provided cable with real competition. This is great news for end-users, your tenant/our customer As a "regular consumer" when not at work, I like the fact I can choose from different suppliers, however, the quality of the product and service are always paramount for me.
At Videon, we take this knowledge and apply it to our business and operating principles to not only meet competition head on, but to stay one step ahead in the delivery of service. As times change, so do rules and so does our environment through the quick introduction of competitive TV delivery services. We are pleased that you can now "kick the tires" of someone else's service and compare to what you know Videon can provide.
Update From The "Inside Wiring" Committee
In multi-unit dwellings (MUDs), the advent of competition is being
addressed by a working committee of the CRTC to address the real implementation
of access to our existing coaxial infrastructure. We are very conscious
that the availability of two TV providers could be a positive feature for
your rental properties. We also know that access to existing wire
panels, electrical rooms and utility closets may often pose space limitations
to a new TV provider. As a member of this working committee I know
first hand that the property owners and managers need to be at the table
to help our regulators understand the impact of their rules on someone
else's business. I am pleased to say the CFAA and CIPREC are both
becoming active and I have been in touch with both executive directors.
At the local level, I want you to know that as the interpretation of the
rules continues I will keep you informed as to "what it really means".
Right now, I am trying to work with new entrants to understand how they
want to use our network. We favour competition; however, we have
also made a tremendous investment in the 56, 000 apartment units in our
licensed area west of the Red River. Our goal is to continue to build
a better understanding of your business and to communicate the technological
and customer service strengths of our company and our people.
Building The Relationship
We've been, here, with you, for over 30 years and it has been a great
era of wonderful new TV services. Hold on, because the next 30 years
is going to be a "magical coaxial cable ride" for TV and so much more.
Thank you for the opportunity to share our excitement for the future of
cable TV... and so much more.
